T2’s Ananda sits landside, useful if you’re early
Ananda is in Terminal T2 at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, in the public (landside) area before security. That matters at CCU: if you’re dropping someone off or arrive more than 3 hours before an international flight, you can actually sit down here instead of hovering near the check-in counters. After you clear security for T2 departures, you won’t be able to come back out to Ananda.
Menu style is standard North Indian and Bengali restaurant fare rather than fast food, with mains typically priced in the mid-range for Kolkata airport. Think classic curries, tandoori items, and rice dishes you’d recognize from city restaurants near Sector 5 or Park Street, not airport-only one-pot meals. You’ll pay more than outside Salt Lake, but not as high as some Delhi T3 outlets.
Portions at Ananda are sized for sharing, so one curry and one rice or bread usually feed 2 light eaters; that’s handy if you’re a family of 3–4 trying to keep the bill under four figures in INR. Service timing matches regular restaurant pace: plan 40–60 minutes for a full sit-down meal, including ordering, mains, and payment, before you walk to T2 security.
Because Ananda is landside in T2, it works best for passengers on domestic or international flights from T2 who have at least 90 minutes in hand before boarding time. It’s also usable for anyone meeting arrivals: if you’re waiting for someone coming in on an IndiGo or Air India flight to T2, you can eat here while watching the arrivals board for their landing time in minutes.
Tip: If your boarding pass shows a T1 departure instead of T2, skip Ananda; inter-terminal transfer at CCU can easily chew up 25–30 minutes, and you don’t want to be stuck landside in the wrong terminal with security queues ahead of you.
