Car service

US$25–40 usually covers a private car into central Cairo

Private Limousine Service at Cairo International Airport (CAI) runs 24 hours a day from Terminals 1, 2, 3, and the Seasonal terminal, with flat or semi-fixed rates into most city districts. You’re paying for a dedicated car, not a shared shuttle, and the price to Tahrir Square or Zamalek often sits in the US$25–40 range depending on car size and haggling skill.

Booking on arrival is possible at official booths in each terminal arrival hall, usually just past customs in T1, T2, and T3. You give your destination, they quote a fixed fare in Egyptian pounds, and a driver meets you outside the terminal door number printed on the slip, such as Door 2 at T3 Arrivals. This keeps you out of the taxi scrum that forms right by the curb.

If you like things locked in, prebook online with a local operator at least 12–24 hours before landing. Many services track flights into CAI by number and adjust pickup time if your EgyptAir or Qatar Airways flight into T3 or T2 runs late. Expect the driver to hold a sign with your name just outside baggage claim, usually near the first coffee stand or bank counter in each arrivals hall.

Step-by-step from the plane: 1) Clear passport control, which can take 20–45 minutes in T3 at evening peaks. 2) Collect bags from the carousel listed on the overhead screens. 3) Walk through customs and find the "Limousine" or "Private Car" counter in the arrivals area. 4) Confirm the price in Egyptian pounds, not US dollars or euros. 5) Get the printed slip with car category and fare. 6) Exit to the curb and match the slip number with the parked car row, which is usually signed by letter or color. 7) Pay at the end of the ride, unless your booking says otherwise.

Prices go up with car size and distance; trips out toward New Cairo or the Ring Road can hit 600–800 EGP versus 400–500 EGP into central areas like Garden City. Bigger vans for families or ski-sized luggage cost more than standard sedans, so ask for the tariff sheet at the counter before committing.

One last tip: keep a screenshot of your hotel address in both English and Arabic and show it to the driver before leaving the airport; many CAI regulars do this to avoid 10–15 minute detours when streets share similar names.
