MM Bus tickets run about 15–25 EGP from CAI into town

The MM Bus Service runs public buses from Cairo International Airport (CAI) toward central districts for roughly 15–25 EGP per ride, depending on route and traffic zone. You’ll find MM buses outside Terminals 1, 2, 3, and the Seasonal terminal on the arrivals level, in the signed public bus area next to the official airport parking lots. Services operate throughout the day and into late evening, but after about 23:00 departures thin out, so don’t count on tight late-night timing.

From Terminal 1, MM buses usually stop at the curb outside Hall 1 near the main taxi rank, with printed route numbers in Arabic on the front and side of the bus. From Terminals 2 and 3, walk about 150–300 meters from the arrivals doors following signs to "Public Transport" and "Bus Station"; the MM vehicles wait alongside other CTA buses and microbuses. The Seasonal terminal uses the same general bus loop shared with staff shuttles and regular city routes, so check the front signboard before boarding.

Most MM Bus routes from CAI run toward areas such as Heliopolis, Nasr City, and connections onward toward Ramses Station downtown, usually taking 45–90 minutes depending on ring road traffic and time of day. Expect older, non-air-conditioned buses on some runs and newer AC coaches on others; both types carry the MM branding and standard city bus livery. You usually pay the conductor in cash right after boarding, with small notes of 5 or 10 EGP making life easier.

Plan on standing for at least part of the ride during peak hours around 08:00–10:00 and 17:00–20:00, since MM buses fill up with airport workers as well as passengers. Luggage space is limited to the floor area around your seat or the front section by the door, and a large 23 kg suitcase can block the aisle quickly. This is not a great move if you land with more than one checked bag per person or oversized sports gear like golf clubs.

Step-by-step: Using MM Bus Service at CAI

  • 1. After landing at Terminal 1, 2, 3, or Seasonal, clear passport control and customs; this can take 20–60 minutes depending on arrival banks.
  • 2. Exit to the public arrivals hall and follow signs for "Bus" or "Public Transport" toward the outside curb or main bus station area.
  • 3. Look for MM-branded buses with route numbers on the front; confirm with the driver that the bus passes your area, such as Heliopolis or Ramses Station.
  • 4. Board using the front or middle door and keep your suitcase tight to your legs; pay the conductor around 15–25 EGP in cash once you find a spot.
  • 5. Watch for major stops announced in Arabic and sometimes English; use an offline map app to track your location and get off one stop early rather than late if you’re unsure.

For the smoothest start, pull at least 50 EGP in small notes from an airport ATM in Terminal 1, 2, or 3 before you head out to the MM bus stand.
