McDonald's

1 $$$$

By Terminal 1 check-in, this McDonald’s doubles as the meet-up point

On the landside level of Terminal 1, near the main check-in counters, McDonald’s is the global logo people mention when giving directions. One TripAdvisor poster even said they used it mainly as a rendezvous spot before flights. It’s before security, so both departing passengers and greeters can access it without a boarding pass.

This is a standard McDonald’s with prices in the lower airport bracket, roughly in the $ tier compared with other CAI options. Expect mainstream items like Big Macs, fries, and McChicken-style sandwiches; local reports don’t mention anything rare or limited-edition. Seating gets described as basic and dated, matching Terminal 1’s older feel rather than the newer T2/T3 food courts.

Opening hours aren’t clearly posted online, but Cairo International runs departures through the night, and reviewers mention spotting McDonald’s during late-evening flights. Assume long hours, but if you have a 03:00 departure from T1, don’t bank on it as your only food option. Because it’s landside, you need to clear security again after eating, which can add 20–30 minutes in busy times.

Regulars on Egypt forums openly say they’d rather eat in Cairo city or in airport hotels and use this McDonald’s only as a fallback. One Reddit user pointed out they’d still choose local food in town over “safe” fast food here. If you’re stuck in T1 with a short window and want something predictable, a quick burger and fries is the realistic play.

Watch out for: reports that Terminal 1 food options generally feel limited and a bit tired, so don’t expect a full modern McCafé setup or fast service during peak tour-group check-in waves. Line up early if your boarding time is under 60 minutes away.

Practical tip: if you’re meeting someone at CAI, tell them “Terminal 1 McDonald’s by check-in” and then move toward security 40–45 minutes before boarding.
