Seven gates, zero lounges sums up BZE right now
Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport runs a single terminal with about seven departure gates, and current reports say the old “VIP Room” lounge is not operating as a regular pay-in option anymore. Older guidebooks still mention a lounge, but a 2024 Belize specialist agency states clearly that there are no functioning airport lounges at BZE.
Terminal-wise, think of BZE as one compact building rather than Terminal 1 vs 2, with all international departures funneled through the same security checkpoint before those seven gates. The VIP Room name may still appear on signs or in outdated apps, but you cannot reliably buy a day pass at the door or access it with a standard lounge program right now.
Hours and pricing for the VIP Room used to exist in older listings, but current sources do not publish any confirmed operating hours, walk-up prices, or access rules. If a handler, airline, or tour operator promises VIP Room access for a fee, get the exact cost in Belize dollars or US dollars in writing and ask whether it’s a private meet-and-greet service or an actual staffed lounge with seating and drinks.
Because there is no working pay-in lounge, plan to spend pre-flight time in the general departures area near the gates. Food and drink options sit landside and airside, with basic bar service and snacks airside within a short walk of every gate, since the whole departures hall is only a few minutes end to end. Expect prices higher than in Belize City itself, with airport beers and mixed drinks often running several Belize dollars above street level.
Watch out for out-of-date “VIP Room” promises in package tours or credit card perk lists that still treat BZE like it has a standard lounge. Some trip reports mention showing up at Philip S. W. Goldson and finding no accessible lounge at all, despite marketing material that implied one. If lounge access matters to you, assume you will be sitting at a regular gate seat, not in a separate quiet room.
Practical tip: bring your own entertainment and charge devices before arriving, because power outlets near the seven departure gates get snapped up fast and there is no lounge fallback if every plug is full.
