Velocity Gold out of BNE International? There’s no Virgin lounge.
Virgin Australia runs its only Brisbane lounge in the Domestic Terminal near Gate 40, and it does not give you access when you depart from the International Terminal. Even on a Virgin Australia international ticket in business class, you currently get no Virgin‑branded lounge at BNE International.
The Virgin Australia Lounge in the Domestic Terminal opens 60 minutes before the first Virgin Australia departure and stays open until the last flight leaves. It sits airside near Gate 40, so you clear domestic security first, then follow signs for Virgin gates 37–41. Access is limited to passengers flying on a Virgin Australia domestic flight; a boarding pass on another carrier won’t get you in.
Day passes are effectively a non‑option here: current info lists the day pass line as just a dot rather than a price, and frontline staff on the domestic side usually confirm that ad‑hoc paid entry is not routinely sold. Treat this as a status or fare‑based lounge — Velocity elite or business class on VA domestic metal — not something you buy into on a whim.
On the international side, a FlyerTalk regular spelled it out: “Virgin Australia do not currently operate any international lounges at any international departure port.” That means at BNE International, even Velocity Gold, Platinum, or business class on VA walk straight to the gate unless they have access through a separate scheme.
Because of this, seasoned Velocity flyers heading overseas from Brisbane lean on credit‑card lounge memberships like Priority Pass or DragonPass, or they book flights on partner airlines that offer their own lounges in the International Terminal, such as Plaza Premium or Escape. In practice, many elites now plan their international departures around partner metal rather than VA when lounge time matters.
Watch out for assumptions baked into your status: several Velocity elites in that 2023–2024 FlyerTalk thread said they only discovered the lack of BNE International lounge access on the day of travel. Don’t rely on past pre‑COVID arrangements or other airports like SYD or MEL as a guide here.
Tip: if your trip starts domestic and connects to an international VA flight in Brisbane, use the Domestic Virgin Australia Lounge near Gate 40 for a short stop, but build at least 45–60 minutes of margin to transit between the Domestic and International terminals and clear outbound formalities.
