Al Volo

Gate-area café in T1 with quick Italian basics

In Bergamo’s T1, Al Volo sits airside after security and runs on a fast counter-service model, built for tight connections. You walk up, pick from ready-made items in the display case, pay at the till, and you’re out in a few minutes if there’s no queue. It’s one of the easier food stops to hit without straying far from your gate area in the departures hall.

Most people here grab coffee and a pastry: expect an espresso or cappuccino in the €1.50–€2.50 range and cornetti at roughly €1–€2. Compared with central Milan pricing, that’s fairly standard for an Italian airport. Staff pull shots quickly, so if your boarding time is in 20–30 minutes, this is still doable. Just avoid peak early-morning bank times when multiple Ryanair flights depart around 6:00–8:00.

For something more filling, Al Volo usually has pre-made panini and tramezzini in the chilled case, often around €5–€7 per sandwich. Expect straightforward fillings like prosciutto, cheese, or tomato-mozzarella rather than anything elaborate. Items tend to be grab-and-go rather than made to order, which keeps waits short but also means bread can feel a bit dry later in the day, especially after 15:00.

Drinks go beyond coffee: you’ll see bottled water, soft drinks, and sometimes small beers or wine splits at typical airport markups, often landing in the €3–€6 range. If you need a quick breakfast before a Schengen hop, this beats boarding hungry and paying higher buy-on-board prices on many low-cost carriers operating from Bergamo T1.

One practical tip: pay attention to your gate display while you’re in line, since gate changes are common at BGY T1. Grab your coffee and sandwich to go, then sit near the monitors so you can move quickly if your Ryanair or Wizz Air flight shifts to a different stand at the last minute.
