Direct coaches at T terminal make Vy Express useful beyond Bergen

Vy Express runs long-distance coaches from Bergen Airport Flesland’s terminal T, mainly for people connecting straight to other towns instead of going into Bergen first. Buses pull into the stop right outside arrivals, about a 2–3 minute walk from baggage claim. This is a regular coach service, not the local Bybanen light rail that most people use for the 45–50 minute trip into Bergen city.

Services typically track main regional routes used by Vy, tying the airport into longer legs that can run well over 100 km from Bergen. You buy tickets by route, not a flat airport fare, so pricing varies by distance and date, and advance online purchase is usually cheaper than buying at the driver’s terminal machine. Compared with flying a short domestic hop, many overlanders use these coaches to connect from an international arrival straight onto a long bus ride and skip an extra SAS or Widerøe segment.

Coaches are standard Vy Express vehicles with high-back seats, luggage bays under the bus, and Wi‑Fi that’s included in the ticket. Expect typical Norwegian coach comfort: individual reading lights, USB or power outlets on most newer buses, and onboard restrooms on longer routes that run over 60–90 minutes. If you’re carrying skis or bulky backpacks, the underfloor luggage compartment usually has space, but be at the stand at least 10–15 minutes before departure so the driver can load everything without rushing.

Most Vy Express departures show up on the electronic boards in terminal T along with Bybanen line 1 and the airport bus into Bergen. Look for the green Vy branding and the route number on the front of the coach, since several different lines can pass through the airport in a single hour. Tickets can be bought in the Vy app, from vy.no, or at machines that also sell rail and local transport tickets; buying on board typically adds a small surcharge in NOK.

Step-by-step from arrivals to Vy Express

  • 1. Land at Bergen Airport Flesland and exit into terminal T’s arrivals hall after baggage claim 1–5.
  • 2. Follow the blue and green “Bus/Bybane” signs about 150–200 meters toward the main ground transport area.
  • 3. Check the digital board for “Vy Express” plus your route number and departure time in 24‑hour format.
  • 4. Buy a ticket in the Vy app or at a ticket machine near the exit doors before you walk out to the stop.
  • 5. Walk 2–3 minutes to the bus stands just outside; find the stand number shown next to your departure on the board.
  • 6. Be at the stand at least 10–15 minutes before the printed departure so the driver can scan your QR code and load checked bags underneath.
  • 7. Keep your hand luggage with you in the cabin, check that the route and end destination on the front sign match your ticket, and stay on until your specific stop is announced.

One practical tip: if your flight into BGO lands after 21:00, check the Vy app before booking because some regional coach routes drop to just 1–2 departures late at night.
