Local Bus Route 57: slower, multi‑stop link from BGO

Route 57 runs from Bergen Airport Flesland (terminal T) into residential areas that don’t sit on the Bybanen Line 1 tracks, so it’s the bus locals use when the tram doesn’t get close enough. Buses stop at the main airport bus stop outside arrivals, and stops along the line cover smaller neighborhoods rather than the E39 corridor or central Bergen hubs.

The service is part of Skyss, the regional transport system, so a standard 90‑minute adult ticket costs the same as the Bybanen or other local buses within one zone. You can buy tickets in the Skyss app, at some airport machines near the exit from baggage claim, or by contactless payment on board, but check current rules because cash payments change from year to year.

Headways vary: outside peak times, Route 57 can run only every 30–60 minutes, so it’s slower both in frequency and in actual ride time than the Bybanen, which hits the airport every 10 minutes in daytime. The bus follows a multi‑stop pattern through local streets, and trips that look short on the map can stretch to 40–50 minutes door to door once you factor in walking from your final stop.

Local Bus Route 57 is mainly useful if your end address sits within a few hundred meters of one of its residential stops and you already know the street names. If you’re heading for Bergen city centre or the main station at Nonneseter, Bybanen Line 1 from BGO usually beats Route 57 by 10–20 minutes and avoids the guesswork on where to get off.

Check departure times in the Skyss app or on the official website shortly before you leave the terminal, then walk the 2–3 minutes from arrivals in T to the bus bays and confirm the front sign shows “57” and the right direction before boarding. One tip: screenshot your stop name and the timetable while on Wi‑Fi in the terminal, so you’re not stuck if mobile data drops during the ride.
