Wiener Feinbäckerei

1 ★ 4.3

Gate-side carbs in Terminal 1

Right in Terminal 1, Wiener Feinbäckerei is the classic German bakery stop for a quick bite before boarding. It sits airside, so you hit it after security, which keeps the line moving faster than the big chains at BER. The shop holds a 4.3 rating, helped by fresh bakes that come out through the morning rush, roughly 06:00–10:00.

Expect the usual Berlin airport pricing: rolls and basic pastries in the €2–€3 range, filled sandwiches around €4–€6, and coffee just under €4 depending on size. You’re paying a small airport premium compared with a city bakery, but still less than the table-service spots near other Terminal 1 gates. Card payment is standard; small notes and coins also welcome.

The safe order here is simple: a buttered Brötchen or cheese roll plus a cappuccino, easily under €8. If you hit it later in the day, around 15:00–17:00, check what’s left; anything with salad or fresh tomato can look tired, so stick to ham-cheese or salami sandwiches that handle the display case better. Sweet options like croissants and Danish-style pastries hold up longer than cream cakes.

Seating is limited and close to the traffic stream in Terminal 1, so this is mainly a grab-and-go spot rather than a laptop session. Figure 5–10 minutes from ordering to walking away, even when a couple of short-haul flights are boarding from nearby gates. It still beats queueing 20 minutes at a branded coffee bar for the same caffeine hit.

Tip: hit Wiener Feinbäckerei before 09:00 if you care about choice; by late morning, the best sandwiches and pretzels are often the first items to disappear from the cases.
