Gate-side burgers in Terminal 1
Terminal 1 passengers find Hans im Glück on the airside concourse, so you’re already through security before you sit down. It’s a full-service burger spot, not fast food, and the price tier runs $$$ compared with other BER options. Expect to pay around €13–€17 for a burger, plus extra for fries and drinks.
The menu leans hard into burger combinations, including several vegetarian and vegan options using plant-based patties instead of beef. Sauces and toppings are a bit more involved than a standard cheeseburger, with things like grilled vegetables, herb mayo and specialty cheese showing up on the core list. Sides usually mean fries or sweet potato fries, and a basic soft drink or water can add another €3–€4 to your bill.
Tables are standard sit-down restaurant style rather than bar seating, which works better if you’ve got a rollaboard and a backpack with you. Service speed varies by time of day, but most travelers report getting in and out within about 40–60 minutes, including ordering and paying. That timing is tight for a short hop to Munich or Frankfurt but manageable if you’ve got at least a 90-minute buffer before boarding.
Beer and cocktails sit around the €5–€9 mark, making this one of the pricier ways to kill time in BER Terminal 1. Portions on the burgers themselves are solid, and one main plus fries usually fills a single traveler. If you’re connecting through BER and used to cheaper landside options in the city, the airport markup here will be noticeable but not shocking for a sit-down spot.
Tip: if your flight leaves from gates A20–A21 in Terminal 1, sit closer to the concourse side of the restaurant so you can keep an eye on actual boarding while you finish your burger.
