Duty Free Shoppers

Gate-side duty free in Terminal 1

Right after security in Terminal 1, Duty Free Shoppers is your main stop for last‑minute liquor, perfume, and souvenirs before US pre-clearance and boarding. It's airside, so you can walk here from any AUA gate in under 5 minutes. Shelves lean hard into island themes: rum, beachwear, sunblock, and gift boxes with “Aruba” stamped on everything.

Liquor is the headline: expect 1L bottles of major whisky and rum brands at prices that usually beat downtown stores by a few dollars. You’ll see local and regional rums up front, then the usual duty free suspects (Absolut, Johnnie Walker, Bacardi) in the back. Staff know the customs limits for the US and Canada and will remind you about 100 ml rules for connections if you’re heading beyond your first stop.

Beauty runs along one wall, with mid-range to premium names and the standard duty free bundles. Smaller 30–50 ml fragrances sit near the cashier if you’re watching both price and carry-on space. Candy, Dutch stroopwafels, and logo snacks fill a couple of central gondolas, so you can grab office gifts in under 3 minutes.

Lines spike in the 11:00–15:00 bank of US departures when multiple flights to Miami, New York, and Charlotte board. If you care about comparing prices or picking a specific bottle, walk the shop first, then queue. Last tip: buy liquids here only if Aruba is your last connection, otherwise plan to re-pack into checked luggage at your next stop.
