Gate-side luxury shopping in Terminal 1: Diamonds International
Terminal 1’s main shopping corridor in AUA includes Diamonds International, a jewelry store focused on duty-free diamonds and branded timepieces. You see it after passport control and security, on the way toward the international gates. If you have 15–20 minutes before boarding, that’s enough time to browse without cutting it close.
Diamonds International at Queen Beatrix stocks loose diamonds, finished engagement rings, Caribbean-style jewelry, and watches from several mid- to high-end brands. Pricing is duty-free in Aruba, so larger-ticket items can run from a few hundred dollars into the five-figure range. Staff usually quote in US dollars, and most travelers pay with major credit cards rather than local florins.
The store sits on the airside concourse in Terminal 1, so you need a boarding pass and cleared security to enter. That means it’s only an option after check-in and outbound immigration. If you’re on a peak-afternoon US-bound departure bank, build in at least 30 extra minutes for security and then shop after you’re through.
Diamonds International typically opens from late morning through the last major departures wave, roughly matching the airport’s international schedule. Earlier European or regional flights around 06:00–09:00 may find the gate area quiet and the store still closed, so don’t count on it for last-second gifts before sunrise departures.
One practical tip: keep your purchase receipt and warranty card in your cabin bag, not checked luggage. If customs at your final destination asks about high-value jewelry or a US$5,000+ watch, you’ll want documentation handy, and checked bags in AUA sometimes arrive separately after tight connections.
