Remote Parking

Remote

Spotters use Mühlhauser Straße pull-offs as “remote parking”

About 1 mile from GAT, Remote Parking at Augsburg is basically the overflow zone that plane spotters use when the main free lot and hangar-side spaces feel tight. The official rate behind the label is €15.00 per day or €105.00 per week, but the real story here is informal roadside parking that locals lean on during longer photography sessions.

Figure a 5-minute walk if you leave the car in one of the legal pull-offs along Mühlhauser Straße and head toward the Tor 1 area. Spotterguides mention that parking directly at Tor 1 is hardly possible, so people leave the car a few hundred meters away and walk back to the apron-view fence line.

Some visitors still try to park next to the hangars by the small apron, using the lot that sits beside the buildings there. The guide explicitly says you can park “on the parking lot next to the hangars or simply by the roadside,” with the hard rule that you do not block the road or any gate access.

There is no security, lighting, or active monitoring in these informal remote spots, and warnings focus on not blocking firefighter or airside service access. That lack of infrastructure is the tradeoff against paying the posted €15.00 daily or €105.00 weekly rates for more formal parking right by GAT.

Regulars typically park either in the official free lot close to the hangars or along Mühlhauser Straße, then walk a few hundred meters to their chosen runway or apron angle. If you plan a long evening session, bring a flashlight for the walk back and double-check that your car is clear of any gate lines or emergency access points.
