Trains run from AER to Sochi city in about 45 minutes

The Aeroexpress train runs between Sochi International Airport (Terminal 1) and Sochi/Adler stations on the same line used for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Trains usually take around 45 minutes to central Sochi, with shorter hops of about 10–15 minutes to Adler. Service normally runs several times per day, with schedules tied to flight banks and local commuter patterns.

Airport access is inside the main terminal area at AER, with the station building a short, signed walk from arrivals on the ground level. You buy tickets at airport ticket windows or machines right by the station entrance; machines typically accept Russian cards and cash in rubles. The train drops you at Sochi or Adler rail stations, both of which connect to city buses, marshrutkas and taxis for last‑mile rides.

Pricing for Aeroexpress tends to sit well below taxi fares, especially for solo travelers going the full airport–Sochi distance of roughly 30 kilometers. Expect a flat per-person fare instead of a meter; check the current rate on the official Aeroexpress or Russian Railways timetable before you fly, as tariffs shift with season and local events. Kids under a certain age sometimes ride free or at a discount, but those rules change more often than the base fare.

On board, trains are standard suburban rail stock with fixed seats and overhead racks; handle any big 23 kg checked bag yourself up the few steps from platform to carriage. There is no guaranteed Wi‑Fi and power outlets are hit or miss depending on the exact set used that day. Trains stop at intermediate stations for local passengers, so you will hear Russian station announcements first, with English sometimes added on Sochi-bound services.

One last tip: before leaving baggage claim at AER, grab cash from an airport ATM in Terminal 1 so you can pay at the machines if your card has issues, then check the day’s exact Aeroexpress departure time on your phone while still on airport Wi‑Fi to avoid a long wait on the platform.
