35–40 MXN gets you from ACA to central Acapulco
The local bus to Centro Acapulco runs from just outside the arrivals area at General Juan N. Álvarez International Airport, serving both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 on the same airport access road. You pay the driver in cash in Mexican pesos, usually around 35–40 MXN per person, and there is no advance ticket counter in the terminal. Buses are basic city units with no luggage racks and no air-conditioning on most vehicles.
Expect buses roughly every 10–20 minutes during daytime hours, with service tapering off after about 21:00 and becoming very sparse closer to 23:00. The stop sits on the main airport road a short walk, about 150–200 meters, from the arrivals exit; follow signs for "Transporte público" or ask any taxi dispatcher for "camión al centro." The route follows the coastal boulevard toward Zona Dorada and central Acapulco.
Figure on 35–60 minutes to reach Centro Acapulco, depending on traffic along Costera Miguel Alemán and the roughly 25 km distance from the airport. The bus makes frequent stops along the way, including near major beachfront hotels and shopping centers. If you only speak English, have your destination written in Spanish, like "Centro" or a specific hotel name, to show the driver when boarding.
There is no set luggage allowance, and you typically carry bags onboard through the front door and keep them by your seat. With a 23 kg checked suitcase plus a 7 kg carry-on, you may feel cramped on a full bus, especially at peak times around 08:00–10:00 and 17:00–19:00. If you are arriving on a late-night flight after 22:00, the 24/7 taxi line at the terminal may be a safer fallback than waiting at the roadside.
Payment is cash-only, and drivers rarely have change for large bills, so pull 50 or 100 MXN notes from the ATM in the arrivals hall before heading out. There are no printed tickets, just hand your fare directly to the driver when you board. Keep small coins and 20 MXN notes handy so you are not stuck trying to break a 500 MXN bill at 23:30.
One last tip: before sitting down, confirm with the driver that the bus is going to "Centro" or "Costera" and not turning off earlier toward neighborhood routes, and watch for your stop on offline maps since there are no electronic displays or stop announcements.
