Security at T1 drops you straight into Aberdeen Duty Free

As soon as you clear security in T1, you’re channelled through Aberdeen Duty Free, the main World Duty Free shop that doubles as the terminal’s core retail strip. This is the bit everyone means when they say “you just walk through duty free then you’re at the gates.” In a small airport that’s mostly this store plus a WHSmith, this is the closest thing ABZ has to a shopping street.

The store sits airside in Terminal 1 and stretches along the default route from security to the domestic and international departure gates. Expect the usual World Duty Free mix: spirits, whisky gift packs, cosmetics, perfume, chocolate, and some last‑minute souvenirs. Stock isn’t on the same scale as Heathrow or Edinburgh, but prices on core liquor lines and fragrance multipacks generally undercut UK high‑street RRP by a few pounds.

Complaints about Aberdeen Airport being “basic” usually mean that beyond Aberdeen Duty Free and WHSmith there’s not much browsing to do before boarding. That makes this shop feel more like part of passenger flow management than a dedicated mall. If you just want your gate, you can walk straight through in under 2 minutes; if you’re comparing whisky, plan 10–15 minutes so you’re not doing price math during boarding calls.

Plan your stop: use the walkthrough from security as your only shopping pass instead of doubling back from the gates. Grab any 1‑litre spirits or perfume sets on that first pass so you’re not weaving upstream when your flight from T1 shows “Go to gate.”
