Most hotel vans at Abu Simbel Airport are tied to packages

Tour groups staying in Abu Simbel’s few hotels often roll straight from EgyptAir flight MSxxx into a prebooked hotel transfer van. These shuttles are usually included in 1- or 2-night packages that bundle airport pickup, hotel, and a guided visit to the temples. If your guesthouse or lodge has confirmed a van, expect the driver waiting in T1 arrivals with a sign showing your name or the tour company.

Hotel transfer vans here run as private or small shared shuttles arranged in advance, not as a walk-up counter in T1. Most airport-to-town rides take around 10–15 minutes, since the distance from ABS to the lakeside hotel strip is under 10 km. Prices vary: some hotels fold the transfer into a US$60–100 per person overnight package, others quote a flat rate per vehicle payable in Egyptian pounds on arrival.

This option mainly fits travelers overnighting in Abu Simbel instead of doing the classic Aswan–Abu Simbel day trip by flight. Standard day-trippers on the early EgyptAir rotation from Aswan usually board a coach or minibus included in their tour rather than a hotel van, then fly back on the late-morning return. If you are only in town for the 2–3 hour temple visit and flying out the same day, your tour operator almost always covers airport transfers separately from any hotel vans.

Because Abu Simbel has a small T1 terminal and limited flights, hotel vans generally time their pickups to the scheduled EgyptAir arrivals, often clustered in a narrow morning window. Some packages spell out exact pickup times relative to flight MSxxx, down to 15-minute increments. Drivers usually park right outside the single exit door, so walking distance from baggage claim to the van is under 100 meters.

If you haven’t seen a written confirmation from your accommodation with the word “transfer,” “pickup,” or a price in EGP or US$ attached, assume you do not have a hotel van arranged. One practical tip: print or screenshot your hotel’s transfer email plus their phone number and have small EGP notes ready, so if the van is late you can quickly call or pivot to a taxi without burning time at the tiny ABS arrivals curb.
