No dedicated airport express shuttle runs from Albuquerque Sunport

Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) operates as a single-terminal airport labeled Terminal 1, and there is no branded “airport express shuttle” representative or kiosk in the arrivals hall. Most people step out to the curb and go straight to rental cars, taxis, or rideshare instead of looking for a shuttle counter that doesn’t exist.

The terminal sits about 5 miles southeast of downtown Albuquerque, and ABQ’s own ground transport signage points you first toward rental cars and personal pickups, not any terminal-branded shuttle bus. If someone at baggage claim mentions an “airport shuttle,” they usually mean a hotel van or a third-party service that you must pre-book, not an official ABQ express option.

Inside Terminal 1, you will not find a desk marked “Airport Express” near baggage claim carousels 1–4, and there is no shared-ride stand run by the airport. If you want a shuttle-style ride, you have to arrange it directly with a hotel, a medical facility, or a private van company that meets you at the commercial vehicle zone outside the terminal.

The Sunport is built around cars: on-airport rental car companies all use a dedicated rental car center reached by a blue-and-white ABQ-branded shuttle bus that departs every few minutes from the east side of the terminal. That shuttle only goes between the terminal and the rental car center on Sunport Boulevard, so it does not function as city transport or a general airport express into town.

If you land late on a night bank after 23:00, expect hotel shuttles to thin out and sometimes stop entirely, with no airport-run backup express into downtown or the University of New Mexico area. In that window, your reliable options are usually rideshare from Door 2 outside baggage claim or a standard metered taxi from the same curb, not a shared shuttle counter.

For planning, treat ABQ like a small, car-oriented field with zero official airport express route: line up your ride before you board your inbound flight or be ready to open a rideshare app at the carousel. One simple tip: if someone online tells you to “just grab the ABQ airport shuttle,” ask them which hotel or company runs it before you bank your timing on it.
