Two-stand Regional Terminal handling all scheduled AAU flights

The Regional Terminal at Asau Airport (code REG on tickets and monitors) handles the small set of domestic flights that actually use this airfield. Expect a straightforward, low-volume setup: a compact building, ground-level boarding, and staff juggling check-in, security, and boarding from the same hall. Most operations here run with prop aircraft, so boarding often happens on foot across the tarmac from the single main door.

Check-in counters in the Regional Terminal usually open about 90 minutes before each scheduled departure, and there is no true “early drop” belt system. You stand right in front of the counter with your bag until staff tag it and walk it to the side. With only one terminal in use for regular traffic, your airline’s sign is easy to spot, and paper boarding passes remain the norm.

Security screening in the Regional Terminal runs through a single lane, and at off-peak times it can be staffed by just one or two officers. Plan on 10–20 minutes from joining the end of the line to stepping into the small airside waiting area, longer if two departures are banked within the same 60-minute window. There is no dedicated fast-track or PreCheck-style lane here, so all passengers use the same queue.

Inside the Regional Terminal, the airside waiting area sits only a few steps beyond the lone security checkpoint, with basic plastic or metal seating set out in rows opposite the boarding door. There are no catalogued restaurants, lounges, or branded shops in this space, just a small local-feeling room where passengers wait within sight of the apron. If you want snacks, buy them in town before you reach the airport.

Facilities in the Regional Terminal stay minimal: expect at least one restroom block shared by all departing passengers, and a couple of wall outlets that may or may not be in prime condition. There are no published power poles at every seat, no fixed workstations, and no dedicated kids’ play areas. Mobile data from your own SIM usually does more for connectivity than any on-site Wi‑Fi listings you might have seen elsewhere.

Boarding at the Regional Terminal typically starts 20–30 minutes before departure time, with staff calling flights by destination and walking groups through the same door used for arrivals in reverse. You follow painted lines or cones across the tarmac directly to your aircraft stairs, sometimes passing within a few meters of parked ground equipment. When your flight is called, move promptly; boarding windows are short because turnarounds here often sit under 40 minutes.

Final tip: arrive at the Regional Terminal about 60–75 minutes before your scheduled AAU departure to clear check-in and the single security lane without stress, and pick up water and food in Asau town beforehand since there are no mapped food outlets inside REG.
