Kantin Bandara

1

Locals call it “kantin bandara” because it’s basically a food court

Instead of a formal lounge, Kantin Bandara at Aji Pangeran Tumenggung Pranoto Airport sits landside in Terminal 1 as a cluster of small warung-style stalls. It sits before security, so you can access it even if you’re dropping someone off for a Lion Air, Citilink, or Garuda flight. Think simple plastic tables, self-service, and counter ordering rather than sofas and bar service.

Hours track the domestic schedule, with stalls typically opening around 06:00 and closing after the last evening departures near 21:00. You’ll usually find basic Indonesian dishes under IDR 40,000, with things like nasi goreng, soto, or mie goreng cooked to order. Payment is mostly cash or local e-wallets like OVO and GoPay, so have some rupiah ready if your foreign card tends to fail on Indonesian terminals.

Because it’s public-area only, you reach Kantin Bandara right after the main entrance doors of Terminal 1, before the first security checkpoint that leads to gates for flights to Balikpapan and Jakarta. That means you can sit here for an hour with family, eat properly, then head through security in about 10–15 minutes when the queue is light. Once you clear security, food options shrink to a couple of small kiosks with higher prices and less seating.

Food is local stall style, so hygiene and spice levels vary; expect plastic-wrapped snacks like kerupuk for around IDR 5,000 and bottled teas or mineral water from roughly IDR 8,000–15,000. Alcohol isn’t in play here, and you won’t see espresso machines or draft coffee, just sachet coffee and sweet bottled drinks. This is closer to a neighborhood kantin flipped into airport form than any Priority Pass-style lounge that mileage collectors are used to in Jakarta or Surabaya.

Don’t expect power outlets under every seat; if you spot a free socket along the wall near a stall, plug in early and keep an eye on your phone. Wi‑Fi coverage comes from the main airport network, and signal strength around the kantin area depends on which corner of Terminal 1 you sit in. One practical play: eat landside at Kantin Bandara, buy a bottled drink for the wait, then move through security about 45 minutes before your scheduled boarding time.
