Reggie Camarillo
Nine years as an American Airlines flight attendant on Latin America routes, MIA base. Now writes part-time on Latin connectivity.
Reggie spent nine years as an American Airlines flight attendant out of MIA, almost all of it on the Latin America widebody routes. He left the airline in 2023 to write and to teach Spanish-language hospitality at a community college, both of which he thinks are downstream of the same job he had before.
He writes for airport.flights as a paid freelance contributor, two pieces a month focused on Latin American connectivity, MIA as a transit hub, and the ways carrier scheduling assumes things about passengers that aren’t true. His beat is the corridor from US Sun Belt to South America, with a particular interest in the connecting hubs that make or break a São Paulo-bound itinerary.
He lives in Coral Gables, flies MIA when he has to and FLL when he can, and continues to insist that Spirit’s MIA-MCO is one of the most operationally sane shuttles in the US.
