It’s classed as local fast food, but it’s really a grab-and-go fridge plus drinks cabinet with a counter.
Price tier sits at the low end for an airport, roughly NZ$4–7 for crisps and chocolate, and around NZ$8–12 for a basic sandwich and drink. One traveller mentioned grabbing a sandwich and a Coke when the main cafe line went insane, and calling it “nothing fancy but did the job.” Another pointed out that prices here are higher than supermarkets in Queenstown, but “not outrageous” by airport standards.
Food On The Run is useful early morning and near closing, when bigger venues in ZQN throttle their menus or shut. Several reviews talk about treating it as a backup: if the cafe queue looks like a 15–20 minute wait, they just grab a bottle of water and a packet of crisps here and move on. Because it’s landside, you can hit it right after check-in but before security screening.
Regulars use it tactically. Local flyers describe picking up a drink and crisps here after dropping bags, then heading through security without stopping again. Others stock up for the flight with a 600ml water and a couple of snacks instead of paying onboard prices on Jetstar or Air New Zealand. Just don’t expect salads or hot food; complaints focus on limited fresh options and everything coming out of plastic wrap.
