Hourly coaches link XIY with cities across Shaanxi and beyond

Intercity coach services from Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY) run from dedicated bus bays at T2 and T3, giving you direct links to regional cities without heading into downtown Xi'an first. Tickets for most routes cost in the ¥40–¥120 range, depending on distance, and you pay at the airport coach ticket counters before boarding. Coaches use standard highway buses with luggage stored in the under-floor compartment, so you keep only a small bag with you in the cabin.

At T3, the main intercity coach station sits on the first-floor ground transport center, directly opposite Door 5 of the arrivals hall, and signs read “长途客运” in both Chinese and English. Services typically run from around 08:00 to 21:00, though exact departure times vary by destination and season, so check the day’s schedule posted at the counter. If you land late after 22:00 in T3, you probably miss the last coach and will need to pivot to taxi or ride-hailing instead.

Most travelers use these airport coaches to reach cities like Xianyang (about 30–40 minutes), Baoji (roughly 2 hours), and Weinan (about 1.5 hours), with a few longer routes heading 3–4 hours out. You buy a specific route, not a seat number, and on busy holidays such as Golden Week (early October) and Labor Day (1 May), coaches can run full, so arrive at least 30–40 minutes before your preferred departure. Drivers usually give a 5–10 minute boarding window, then leave on time, even if a few ticketed passengers are missing.

At T2, smaller counters near the domestic arrivals exit handle some regional routes and sell the same paper tickets that you show at the coach bay gate. Most coaches stop briefly at T2 then T3, or vice versa, so ask at purchase which terminal your bus departs from and confirm the exact bay number written on your ticket, such as “Bay 3” or “Bay 5.” The walk from baggage claim to the T2 coach bays takes about 5–8 minutes with luggage trolleys available along the way.

Payment at XIY coach counters is usually cash in renminbi or mobile methods such as WeChat Pay and Alipay; international cards often fail, so carry at least ¥200–¥300 in cash if you plan a longer route. Staff at the counters normally speak basic English for city names like Baoji or Weinan, and they will circle departure times on your ticket in pen. Keep your passport and boarding pass handy, as some counters note your ID number when selling intercity tickets.

Practical tip: Landed early in T3 and heading straight out of Xi'an? Skip the city shuttle, walk to the T3 coach counter near Door 5, and buy the next direct coach to your target city to save 60–90 minutes of backtracking through downtown.
