SKM S3

Train line to Warszawa Central

Train line to Warszawa Central 18-22 min (WAW–Zachodnia) $1-2

Trains from Terminal A hit Warszawa Zachodnia in about 20 minutes

SKM S3 runs from the airport station under Terminal A to Warszawa Zachodnia in roughly 18–22 minutes, then continues through central Warsaw toward Legionowo. Trains run about every 15–30 minutes between around 04:30 and 23:30, so it works for most morning and evening flights but not true red-eyes. A single ticket is cheap, usually in the $1–2 range depending on zone and ticket type.

If your onward PKP Intercity train leaves from Warszawa Zachodnia, S3 is the cleanest option: one direct hop from “Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina” to “Warszawa Zachodnia” without dragging bags through Centralna. Locals on Reddit point out that northbound trips toward Gdańsk, Białystok, or Olsztyn often start or stop at Zachodnia, so skipping Śródmieście and Centralna can save 10–15 minutes and a transfer.

S3 also lines up well for Praga and Stadion Narodowy. The train runs through Stadion Narodowy station, which connects to Metro line M2 and several tram lines, and many Warsaw regulars ride S3 from the airport to Stadion, then jump to trams toward Praga for the last 2–4 stops. That beats going all the way to Śródmieście and then back east again.

How to ride SKM S3 from WAW, step by step

  • 1. Follow the train icons: After baggage claim in Terminal A, follow the blue rail signs down one level to “Lotnisko Chopina” station; the walk is about 3–5 minutes from arrivals.
  • 2. Buy a ticket: Use the red or purple machines marked “ZTM” or “SKM” on the concourse; pick a ZTM ticket valid for zones 1+2 or a standard airport–city ticket, usually around $1–2 at current rates.
  • 3. Check the boards carefully: On the platform, look for trains showing “S3” on the side screens and destinations like “Warszawa Zachodnia” or “Legionowo”; the boards do not always say “airport.”
  • 4. Validate if needed: If you bought a paper ZTM ticket, stamp it in the yellow validator by the platform entrance before boarding; app and contactless tickets don’t need this extra step.
  • 5. Board away from the doors: With luggage, head for the middle of a carriage and park your bags near the folding seats; the ride to Zachodnia is only about 20 minutes.
  • 6. Time your arrival: From WAW to Stadion Narodowy takes around 25 minutes, and to Warszawa Centralna (if you change from S3 there) you should budget 30–35 minutes total including the transfer.

What regulars do and what to watch for

Locals use S3 as the “worker train” toward Legionowo, which means heavy standing crowds between Stadion Narodowy and Warszawa Zachodnia around 08:00–09:00 and again roughly 16:00–18:00. If you have two big suitcases and any flexibility, shift by 30–45 minutes outside those bands. Enthusiasts also note that S2 and S3 share the same tracks from the airport into town, so if you just missed an S2 to Śródmieście, taking the next S3 to Stadion or Zachodnia and changing once can be faster than waiting a full 30 minutes.

Practical tip: Screenshot the SKM S3 timetable and station list (Lotnisko Chopina → Zachodnia → Centrum/Śródmieście → Stadion → Legionowo) before you land, so if platform screens are confusing you still know exactly where to get off.
