€0.80 train, 7–8 minutes from VNO to Vilnius station
From T1 arrivals at Vilnius International Airport, the Vilnius Airport Railway Station gives you a 7–8 minute hop to Vilnius central station for about €0.80–1.00. Trains are usually almost empty compared to bus 3G or taxis, so this is the budget play if your timing lines up.
The rail stop is not in the terminal: expect a 300–400 m walk from T1 arrivals along a signed outdoor path to a small platform marked “Oro uostas.” In daylight it feels straightforward, but first-timers landing in winter darkness often call it “weirdly deserted,” especially with heavy bags.
Trains run roughly every 30–60 minutes, with several departures per hour in daytime and big gaps late evening and very early morning. If your flight lands after around 22:30 or before 06:00, you can easily hit a 30–60 minute wait, so have bus 1, 2 or 3G, or a taxi, as backup.
This shuttle only runs Airport ↔ Vilnius station; you cannot board direct intercity services to Kaunas, Klaipėda, or Panevėžys at the airport stop. For those routes, ride the airport train to Vilnius central station, then change to a regular Lithuanian Railways departure on a separate platform.
How to use Vilnius Airport Railway Station step by step
- 1. Exit arrivals in T1 and follow signs for “Train / Railway station” or “Geležinkelio stotis” immediately after customs.
- 2. Walk 300–400 m outside along the marked path; it takes about 5 minutes at normal pace from the terminal doors to the small “Oro uostas” platform.
- 3. Check the timetable on the electronic board at the platform or on the LTG Link site/app and confirm the next train to “Vilnius” central station, noting the 30–60 minute gaps off-peak.
- 4. Buy your ticket from the machine, the LTG app, or on board if allowed that day; price should come in around €0.80–1.00 for a one-way airport–city fare.
- 5. Board the shuttle-style train when it arrives and keep your luggage close; the ride to Vilnius central station takes only 7–8 minutes with no intermediate stops.
- 6. At Vilnius station, transfer if needed to suburban buses, city buses, or intercity trains toward Kaunas, Klaipėda, or Panevėžys from the main concourse.
What regulars do and what to watch out for
Locals and frequent visitors often check the LTG timetable before boarding their flight; if the next train is more than 25–30 minutes away, they skip the platform and walk straight to buses 1, 2 or 3G outside T1 instead. Many use the train mainly in the Airport → Vilnius direction in daytime, then connect onward from the main station.
Watch out for late-night gaps after roughly 23:00 and for early-morning arrivals when there may be no train for quite some time. One practical tip: screenshot the airport–city schedule before you land and decide at baggage claim whether to head for the 300–400 m train walk or pivot to the buses right outside T1.
