Gate-side shopping in T1 right after security

The main Duty Free in Terminal 1 sits airside, just past the security checkpoint for international departures at Viracopos (VCP). It’s open for most of the long-haul bank, roughly from early morning departures through late-night flights, so you can swing by before boarding. Expect the usual liquor, perfume, cosmetics and chocolate, plus some Brazilian products that hit harder on value than the imports.

Liquor prices on common brands often beat downtown São Paulo shops by a few percent, especially on 1L bottles. Look for promos on whisky and cachaça; staff usually tag the multi-bottle deals clearly on the shelf. Fragrances and cosmetics track global duty free pricing, so you’re not getting a miracle bargain, but it can make sense if you were already planning a purchase. Snacks and boxed chocolates sit near the tills, useful if you forgot gifts.

Payment works in BRL, major cards, and usually USD/EUR at a set airport rate, though the conversion is rarely generous. Lines spike right before the big European departures, so factor in an extra 10–15 minutes if your flight leaves in that wave. Staff are used to quick turnarounds and will bag items for carry-on without much small talk.

Tip: if you care about price, scan liquor and perfume promo tags first, pick from those, then grab any last-minute sweets on your way to the cashier near the T1 international gates.
