Taxi

Landing after 23:00 with two suitcases? Taxi wins here.

Trondheim Airport, Værnes taxis line up directly outside the arrivals hall for both Terminal A and Terminal B, about a 1–2 minute walk from baggage claim. You’ll see the official taxi rank just beyond the main exit doors, with cars waiting even on late SAS and Norwegian arrivals. No need to pre-book for normal hours, but for flights landing after midnight it’s smart to reserve a car through a local company by flight number.

Fares into Trondheim city center (around 32 km away) typically run in the 900–1,100 NOK range for a standard taxi, depending on time of day, traffic, and company tariff. Night and weekend surcharges apply, and some companies start their meter with a base fee around 100–120 NOK. Ask for an estimated total before you get in and confirm that card payment is accepted; most Trondheim cabs take Visa and Mastercard contactless without issue.

Door-to-door time from TRD to central Trondheim hotels is usually 25–35 minutes by taxi, compared with roughly 38–45 minutes if you use the Værnesekspressen bus plus a walk. If you’re staying farther east, like Stjørdal (about 3–5 km away), the ride can be as short as 5–10 minutes and cost closer to 250–400 NOK. For groups of three or four splitting the meter, the per-person price often comes close to the combined bus tickets.

The taxi rank operates 24 hours a day tied to flight schedules, and multiple companies queue there, including TrønderTaxi and Norgestaxi. Some offer fixed-price deals into Trondheim if you pre-book via app or phone and mention “Værnes–Trondheim fastpris.” Check the company website or app for exact 2024 fixed rates; they can undercut the metered fare by 50–150 NOK on a city-center trip.

Watch out for unofficial drivers who approach you inside the terminal; head to the signed taxi stand outside arrivals A/B instead. If you arrive with skis or oversized luggage, ask at the rank for a larger vehicle or station wagon before loading; there’s usually at least one in the first 3–4 cars. Norwegian law requires child seats for kids under a certain age, so specify seats when booking if you’re traveling with children.

Quick tip: screenshot your hotel address with postcode (like 7010 Trondheim) before you land, then hand your phone to the driver at the rank to avoid any language or spelling mix-ups once you’re in the taxi queue.
