Cheapest full meal past security in T1

Subway in T1 sits airside after security at Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport, and it’s one of the only global fast-food brands in the building. If you just want something familiar before a Ryanair or airBaltic hop, this is the predictable option when the Baltic cafés look too expensive.

Prices run lower than most sit-down spots in T1: a basic 15 cm sub with a drink usually comes out several euros less than a hot dish at the nearby café bars. The trade-off is quality; reviews hover around a 2 out of 5, so think “fuel stop” rather than a meal you’ll talk about later.

Menu is the standard Subway lineup: footlongs, 15 cm subs, salads, cookies, and fountain drinks. Expect the usual suspects like Tuna, Italian B.M.T., and Veggie Delite on the overhead boards, with bread choices and toppings exactly like in city branches. If you’re in a rush for an early Air Baltic departure, the cold-cut subs move fastest and are usually the quickest to assemble.

Service speed depends heavily on the queue; at busy Schengen departure banks it can jump to 10–15 minutes from line to boarding pass scan, while mid-day it’s closer to 5. Staff often speak Estonian, Russian, and English, so ordering in English is straightforward and signage matches what you’d see at a typical European Subway.

The 2-star rating is mostly about expectation vs. airport pricing: bread can be dry if it’s been under the heat lamps for more than an hour, and toppings sometimes run low later in the evening. If you care at all about freshness, stick to subs with lots of vegetables and skip anything that looks like it’s been pre-made on the side of the counter.

One tip: build your sandwich to travel, then eat at the gate. Ask them to cut a 30 cm sub into halves, double-wrap it, and you’ve got two short-haul snacks for the price of one airport meal.
