Gate-side Burger King is your landmark for Sala VIP Montaña Roja
The lounge sits in T1 departures above the Burger King area; follow the purple “VIP” signs, take the escalator up, and you’re there. It’s a contract lounge, open to pay-per-use guests and membership cards, and most frequent flyers treat it as a calmer room than the main terminal rather than anything premium.
Hours and access rules matter more here than the buffet
Doors open Monday–Thursday 07:00–21:00, Friday 07:00–24:00, and Sunday 07:00–19:00 in T1, so late Friday departures get the best coverage. Access works via pay-per-use (often sold through the AENA app or third parties) and common lounge memberships, with most sellers capping stays at about 3 hours before departure.
Food is mostly pre-packed and very limited
Reviewers consistently report “limited selection of pre packed sandwiches,” a few crisps or nuts, and not much else, even in the middle of the UK departure bank. One Facebook user booked via the AENA app, grabbed multiple sealed sandwiches, and took them onboard as snacks, which tells you the level of ambition in the catering.
Drinks: manage expectations, especially on alcohol
Soft drinks, basic coffee and tea, and water are self-serve, but alcohol is the weak link here. Multiple BA forum posts call the red wine “more or less undrinkable,” note the absence of champagne or any sparkling wine, and point out that spirits are mostly unbranded labels plus a lone Martini bottle.
Best seats are behind the wooden wall with runway views
Regulars head straight behind the wooden partition at the back of the room, where you’ll find leather tub chairs and sofas facing the apron. That corner is usually quieter than the main seating area and gives better views of movements on the TFS runway while UK and German flights cycle through the standard lounge.
Wi‑Fi and terrace: useful, but with caveats
The lounge Wi‑Fi is free but FlyerTalk users say it “keeps dropping out,” so download your shows over mobile data in the main T1 hall if you care about streaming. There’s also an attached outdoor/smoking terrace, which a YouTube reviewer said “smells like an ashtray,” so treat it as smoker overflow seating, not a sun deck.
How frequent flyers actually use Montaña Roja
FlyerTalk regulars describe Sala VIP Montaña Roja as “on the low side of standard… better than the terminal,” and mainly use it as a quieter seat and power socket before boarding. Tip: eat in T1 first, then arrive here about 2–2.5 hours before departure to sit behind the wooden wall and ride out any minor delay in relative calm.
