Draft beer and pub food at Jacks Bar before security

Jacks Bar sits landside at London Stansted Airport, before security, so it works if you’re meeting someone off a flight or arriving early from the train. Because it’s pre-security, build in extra time to get through screening after you eat; on busy mornings at STN, that can easily mean 30–40 minutes.

The setup runs like a straightforward UK pub: order at the bar, grab your table number, and staff bring food out. Expect standard burgers, fried snacks, and sandwiches, plus draught beer and basic mixed drinks. Prices sit in typical UK-airport territory, with mains noticeably higher than on the high street, so think of this as a sit-down option rather than a quick budget bite.

Drinks are the main draw: pints, spirits, and house wines by the glass. If you care about a specific beer or cider brand, ask what’s on tap before committing; airport bars rotate lines and sell-outs are common on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Soft drinks and basic coffee are available, but this is not a specialty coffee spot, and there’s no separate barista counter.

Because Jacks Bar is landside, it can get busy around the Ryanair morning and late-evening departure waves that push more people into the terminal at once. Service speed tends to track crowd size, so a burger and fries can be quick at 11:00 but drag at 06:30 when early flights stack up. If your boarding gate is already posted on the screens, check the walking time; some far gates at Stansted are a decent hike from security.

Tip: eat first, then clear security with at least 60 minutes to spare for non-EU flights and 45 minutes for domestic or short-haul Schengen services out of Stansted.
