Long stay

7-minute shuttle, lowest on-airport price

Long Stay at Stansted is the airport’s budget on-site option, roughly a 7-minute shuttle ride from the terminal when things run smoothly. It’s the one regulars pick for week-long or longer trips when price beats comfort and speed. You park your own car, keep your keys, and then wait at the nearest marked bus stop for the transfer.

Shuttles run both ways, but FlyerTalk users call them “slow either way,” especially compared with Mid Stay. The ride itself is short at around 7 minutes, but the wait can bite, particularly early morning or late at night. That’s the trade: cheaper than Mid Stay and Short Stay when booked in advance, but you pay in time and patience.

The car park is large and basic, with standard bays and bus stops spread around multiple zones. No covered parking, no frills, just long rows of cars and numbered sections. Because of the size, you might add a 5-minute walk from your space to the nearest bus stop, especially during busy summer Saturdays.

Regulars pre-book Long Stay weeks or months ahead to lock in the lowest rate, often via comparison sites bundling official Stansted lots. Frugal flyers lean on it for 7–14 day leisure trips, then switch to Mid Stay or Short Stay for one- or two-night business runs where every minute counts. If you see Mid Stay only a few pounds more on your dates, many seasoned travellers pay the extra.

Tip: build a 30-minute buffer on top of your normal airport arrival time for Long Stay, especially at peak school-holiday periods or for 06:00–08:00 departures, to cover slower buses and walking time inside the car park.
