By Gate T2 security, this is STL’s only Steak ’n Shake
In Terminal 2 at St. Louis Lambert, Steak ’n Shake sits landside before security, making it usable by both departing and arriving passengers on Frontier, Lufthansa, and other T2 carriers. This is a stripped-down airport version of the chain, but you still get the core: smashed steakburgers, shoestring fries, and hand-dipped shakes served from early morning into the late evening rush (typical hours run from around 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., but check day-of).
Burger pricing runs in the $7–$12 range for single and double steakburgers, with combo meals pushing closer to $15 after tax. Shakes clock in around $5–$7 depending on flavor. For an airport, that lands just under what you’d pay at many sit-down spots in Terminal 1, so this can be a decent value play if you’re watching spend before a Frontier basic fare.
The Frisco Melt and the classic Double Steakburger with cheese are the safest orders here; both cook fast and hold up reasonably well in a paper bag if you’re hustling to a T2 gate just past security. Fries are the thinner, crispy style and sometimes come out salty enough that you may want a fountain drink or bottled water from the same counter cooler to balance it out.
This unit leans counter-service only, with limited airport seating in the shared Terminal 2 pre-security atrium. Lines spike hard in the 4:00–7:00 p.m. departure window for ULCC banks, so plan 15–20 minutes from joining the queue to walking away with your bagged order. Morning menus are lighter, but you can usually still grab a basic breakfast sandwich and coffee for under $10.
Final tip: if your flight leaves from Terminal 1, skip the train ride; you can’t use this T2 Steak ’n Shake post-security, so eat here only if your boarding pass actually shows Terminal 2.
