Burger fix in Terminal 2 before Southwest boards

This Shake Shack sits airside in Terminal 2, past security for Southwest gates, so you don’t need to budget extra time for a pre-flight burger run. It’s standard Shake Shack: griddled burgers, crinkle-cut fries, frozen custard, and shakes. Expect airport pricing, roughly $9–$11 for a ShackBurger and $4–$5 for fries, with combo-style ordering pushing a simple meal into the mid-teens.

Hours at STL typically track the Southwest schedule, opening around the first outbound flights in the early morning and running into the evening bank; food service usually winds down by about 9–10 p.m., so don’t count on a late-night bite after those last departures. Seating is shared with nearby Terminal 2 food court tables, so you can spot your gate board for flights like WN 1234 while you eat.

Menu hits are the single or double ShackBurger and the Chicken Shack sandwich; both come out reasonably fast, even when there’s a short line of 8–10 people from back-to-back departures. Crinkle fries run about $4, cheese fries a dollar or so more, and shakes and concretes live in the $6–$8 range. The STL outpost usually has at least one limited-time shake on the board along with the standard vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.

Staff pace at this Terminal 2 location is decent for an airport operation, but a full board of Southwest flights can stretch waits to 15–20 minutes between paying at the register and hearing your name called. Food comes in to-go packaging by default, so you can walk the 3–5 minutes to the far gates without juggling loose items.

Tip: if your Southwest flight boards in 30 minutes or less, stick to a single burger and fries and skip shakes; they’re slower to make and can be tough to manage in the tight 737 seating pitch at STL.
