Mike Shannon's Grill

1

By Gate Note: Mike Shannon’s Grill sits in Terminal 1 pre-security

This is the airport outpost of the St. Louis baseball legend’s steakhouse brand, set in Terminal 1 at STL. It works best if you’re checking bags anyway or meeting someone curbside, since you have to clear security after eating. Expect standard sit-down timing: plan at least 60 minutes before boarding if you’re dining here, especially during the 5 p.m.–8 p.m. dinner rush.

The menu leans classic American grill: burgers, steaks, sandwiches, and big salads, all with Cardinals memorabilia on the walls tying it back to the downtown Mike Shannon’s history. Entrées typically land in the $15–$30 range, so this runs pricier than grabbing something at a gate bar. Portions come in on the hearty side, which can make it worth it if you’re hungry before a long flight out of Terminal 1.

You’ll find a full bar with local options, including St. Louis beers from brands like Schlafly or Urban Chestnut alongside national labels. Mixed drinks usually price in the low teens, and there’s a short wine list by the glass around the $9–$13 mark. If you care more about catching a full inning than fine dining, the TVs over the bar keep Cardinals games and national sports going most evenings.

Service pace varies with flight banks out of Terminal 1, and you can easily add 15–20 minutes to your meal when there’s a cluster of departures around 6 p.m. To keep things simple, stick to burgers or sandwiches; grill items and salads generally come out faster than steak plates when the dining room is full. Ask your server for current kitchen timing if your boarding pass shows a tight 45–60 minute window.

Tip: if you’re departing from Terminal 2 on Southwest, factor in the short airport shuttle ride from Terminal 1 and give yourself at least 90 minutes from being seated at Mike Shannon’s Grill to scheduled departure time.
