Hotel Courtesy Transfer

Hotel shuttle

Hotel shuttle Similar to taxi times (roughly 30-60 min to most central districts depending on traffic) : can be free only in one direction or above a minimum number of nights

Late-night Carnaval arrival and your Barra hotel sends a van

At Salvador’s Terminal 1, some mid-range and upscale hotels in Barra, Ondina, and Rio Vermelho quietly run a Hotel Courtesy Transfer from SSA. Ride time is similar to taxis or Uber — around 30–60 minutes into central neighborhoods depending on BR-324 traffic. Set this up directly with the property; many Brazilians do it by WhatsApp or email after booking the room.

Cost is all over the place. Reviews mention “free” one-way pickup only if you stay 2–3 nights, or only from airport-to-hotel, not back. Others quote fixed prices that run higher than Uber for the same 30–60 minute route. Always ask in writing: exact price in reais, which direction is covered, and if taxes or parking are extra.

Frequency depends on the hotel. Some send a driver for your exact flight and hold a sign in the arrivals hall at Terminal 1 with your name, which skips the taxi queue outside. Others run shared vans, grouping guests off two or three flights; that can add 15–30 minutes of waiting plus extra hotel stops in Barra or Ondina before your drop-off.

Common complaints: hotel-arranged cars sometimes cost noticeably more than ride-hailing on the same SSA–Barra run, and a few guests report drivers turning up late or standing in the wrong part of the arrivals area. Another one: “courtesy transfer” ends up on the folio as a separate R$ charge at check-out. Screenshot the hotel’s confirmation so you can push back if needed.

What regulars do: they email the hotel a week out with their flight number, arrival time, and the exact question, “Is this transfer free or paid, and is it private or shared?” Then they compare that quote with the going Uber fare for SSA to their district. If it’s shared and more expensive, they usually skip it.

Step-by-step from SSA with a Hotel Courtesy Transfer:

  • 1. When booking the room, ask the hotel by email/WhatsApp about airport transfer price, conditions, and if there is a minimum-night rule.
  • 2. At least 24–48 hours before landing at SSA, send your flight number, scheduled arrival time, and number of passengers to confirm the pickup.
  • 3. On arrival at Terminal 1, clear immigration (if international) and customs, then walk into the public arrivals hall on the ground floor.
  • 4. Look for a driver holding a sign with your name or hotel name near the main meeting point; if nobody appears within 15 minutes, call or message the hotel.
  • 5. Before getting in the car or van, reconfirm with the driver: your hotel name, if the ride is prepaid/complimentary, and whether you’re going direct or via other stops.
  • 6. Once at the hotel, check your bill or confirmation on check-in day to see if any transfer fee (often R$60–R$150) has been added.

One tip: pull up an Uber fare estimate from SSA to your hotel while you wait in arrivals; it gives you instant leverage in deciding if the hotel’s transfer quote still makes sense.
