Gate A1 side of Terminal A, you’ll smell the chocolate first
See’s Candies sits post-security in Terminal A between gates A1–A13, so it’s an easy stop on the walk to most A-gates. It’s a straight-up gift shop for people who forgot a present until they hit SMF. Everything is boxed, bagged, and travel-ready, so nothing loose rolling around your backpack.
The shop opens early at 5:30 AM and runs until 10:00 PM daily, which covers the first Southwest departures and late-night arrivals through Terminal A. That makes it one of the few spots still open when the last flights to SoCal and Phoenix are boarding. Morning staff usually have the pre-packed assortments front and center for quick grab-and-go.
Expect classic See’s assortments, nut clusters, lollipops, and seasonal boxes, with plenty of under-$20 options that fit under the $25 work-gift threshold. Pre-wrapped 1 lb and 2 lb boxes save you from hunting for gift bags in another shop. Receipts clearly show “Sacramento” and “SMF,” which helps if you’re trying to prove it’s actually a trip gift.
If you’re tight on time near gate A10, this is faster than walking back toward the central food court for souvenirs. Lines spike right after a bank of departures around 7:00–8:00 AM and again before the 5:00–7:00 PM evening push. Tip: decide milk vs dark before you step up so you’re not that person holding a 10-deep line.
