Vino Volo

A

Gate-side wine bar in Terminal A

Terminal A’s Vino Volo sits post-security near the main concourse, and it fills a gap at SMF if you want an actual glass of wine instead of a plastic cup pour from a bar cart. It’s a small, table-service setup, so it stays quieter than the generic bars by the gates. You’ll find it on the Terminal A side that serves airlines like United and American, so factor that in if you’re flying out of B.

Vino Volo runs typical airport hours, usually opening by the first bank of morning departures around 5:00–6:00 a.m. and staying open into the late evening flight wave. Expect wine flights in the $15–$25 range and by-the-glass pours around $10–$18, depending on region and label. They lean into West Coast wines, so you’ll usually see a couple of Napa or Sonoma reds on the board along with a Central Coast option.

Food here is wine-bar style rather than full restaurant: think small plates like a cheese and charcuterie board, flatbreads, and a few salads or sandwiches in the $10–$20 range. Portions run light, so treat it as a snack plus a glass before your Southwest or United hop, not a full dinner before a 10-hour flight. If you actually need to be full, pair a charcuterie plate with something more substantial elsewhere in Terminal A.

Service is sit-down, but you can usually get a quick solo glass at the bar in under 10 minutes if your flight boards in 30. There’s also a small retail section with bottles you can buy; airport rules apply, so they pack them for carry-on or checked-bag transfer depending on your connection. Expect standard 750 ml bottles priced at a premium over street level, often in the $25–$60 range.

Tip: If your flight leaves from the far A concourse end, sit facing the screens and set a 20-minute alarm; it’s a longer-than-it-looks walk from Vino Volo to gates past A12.
