Terminal B’s La Taqueria flies under the radar at SMF

Most SMF food threads obsess over Iron Horse and Cafeteria 15L, while La Taqueria in Terminal B barely gets a mention. It sits airside past security in B, on the concourse used by Southwest and JetBlue, so you can grab tacos without leaving your gate cluster for long. Signage is small, so keep an eye out just after you clear the central checkpoint and turn toward the B20s.

Figure on airport pricing: simple tacos usually land in the $4–$6 range, with burritos and combo plates pushing closer to $12–$15. Portion sizes tend to run heavier than a snack and lighter than a true sit-down meal, so budget 20–25 minutes if you’re trying to squeeze this into a 45-minute boarding window. Compared with pre-security options, you’re paying a couple dollars more per item for the convenience of staying inside Terminal B.

The menu skews standard: grilled chicken and carne asada tacos, burritos with rice and beans, plus chips and salsa or guac. If you’re watching time before a 6:00 a.m. departure, confirm they’re actually open; some SMF spots in B don’t fully spin up breakfast service until closer to 5:30 a.m. Ask about salsa heat levels at the counter instead of guessing, since you typically get only one or two cups per order.

Seating around La Taqueria is mostly shared concourse tables near nearby gates, and it fills up around the 7:00–9:00 a.m. and 4:00–7:00 p.m. bank of flights. If it’s slammed, take it to-go and use empty seats at a quieter B gate like B7 or B8. Lines move on airport time, so don’t jump in if boarding for your B-concourse flight starts in under 20 minutes.

Practical tip: order tacos instead of a burrito if your group lands at Terminal B with a tight 30–40 minute layover; they come out faster and are easier to eat while you watch the B concourse departure boards.
