Escape Lounge

B · B12 Open · 04:30-20:00 Mon, Tue, Sat, Sun; 04:30-21:00 Wed, Thu, Fri Day pass $60 walk-up / $45 pre-book

Ten steps after TSA in Terminal B, Escape Lounge sits opposite Gate B12.

This is the quick-stop Escape Lounge in SMF Terminal B, immediately on the left after security and across from Gate B12, so you lose maybe one minute of walking time from checkpoint to seat. Hours run 04:30–20:00 on Mon, Tue, Sat, Sun and 04:30–21:00 on Wed, Thu, Fri, which covers the first bank of departures out of Sacramento and most evening flights.

Access works two ways: Amex Platinum gets you in, or you pay $60 walk-up at the door, with pre-booking online usually dropping that to $45 per person. It sits airside in Terminal B, so this only helps if your boarding pass shows gate numbers starting with B, like B12 or B15. Check your card terms, as Amex sometimes limits guesting and charges for extra people beyond the included allowance.

The space itself is small and basic, with seating that fills up around the 07:00–09:00 and early evening banks, when flights from B10–B20 start cycling. Noise measurements from one review came in around 53.2 dB at 11:30 a.m., which is more “busy coffee shop” than quiet library, and you’ll still hear boarding calls leaking in from the B-gate concourse.

There are no restrooms or showers inside this lounge; you have to step back into the concourse and walk roughly a minute toward Gate B15 for the nearest toilets. Regulars on FlyerTalk call this out as the main downside, especially if you like to time a shower or restroom stop right before boarding from nearby gates like B12 or B14.

Food is better than basic snacks if you hit it at the right time: one 07:30 a.m. visit reported breakfast options like frittatas, lox, and fresh fruit on the buffet. Later in the day you can expect a small hot selection plus cold items and dessert, all self-serve, and it usually beats paying $15–$20 for a mediocre concourse sandwich near B10 or B18.

Wi‑Fi runs on the lounge’s own network rather than the terminal’s, with one test showing about 14.8 Mbps down and 5.2 Mbps up, which covers email, streaming a show, or downloading a few large files before boarding at B12. Outlets sit along the walls and some table bases, so aim for those spots if you need to charge a laptop for a transcon out of Gate B16 or beyond.

Regulars who care about breakfast aim to walk in around 07:30 a.m., just after the frittatas and lox hit the buffet but before the B-bank rush fully fills the room. Another strategy: pop in for 30–40 minutes if you land from an early flight into B8 or B10 and have a shortish connection rather than camping here for hours.

Practical tip: use the lounge as a staging point right after security, then duck to the B15 restrooms about 10–15 minutes before boarding and head straight to your gate, especially if you’re leaving from B12 nearby.
