Rum prices here usually beat Castries souvenir shops
This small Duty Free Shop sits past check-in at George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU), just before the single security checkpoint. You’ll see it on the left walking toward departures, a few meters before the upstairs waiting area. Stock skews heavily to Caribbean rum, cigarettes, and basic perfume brands, all at tax-free pricing compared to downtown Castries.
Hours roughly track flight banks: expect it open from about 2 hours before the first LIAT or inter-island departure until the last evening flight. If you’re on a 07:00–09:00 departure, assume they’re open; late-night ops are rare at SLU, so the shop usually closes by around 19:00. Staff work fast around boarding calls, so you can duck in even 15–20 minutes before departure if security isn’t backed up.
Liquor is the main reason to stop. Look for St. Lucian rums in the EC$40–90 range and gift boxes that pack better in a carry-on than glass bottles bought in town. Chocolate, small snack bags, and a few local sauces sit near the counter, generally a bit cheaper than waterfront tourist stalls. Cigarettes and basic cosmetics round out the shelves, but electronics and travel gear are minimal.
Cards in Eastern Caribbean dollars and US dollars are widely accepted, and small purchases under EC$20 sometimes go quicker with cash. Stock can thin after large weekend flights, so if you care about a specific rum label, shop before midday. One practical tip: grab liquids here only if SLU is your final airport; if you’re connecting through another Caribbean hub with re-screening, pack duty-free in checked baggage or skip the larger bottles.
