Hotel-operated minibus 30-40 min

Free “airport shuttle included” lines in Thessaloniki hotel ads usually mean a shared minibus run on their schedule, not yours.

Most large hotels and resorts around Thessaloniki advertise a hotel-operated minibus from SKG, with a typical ride of 30–40 minutes into the city or out to nearby coastal areas. Some shuttles are free, others are a paid add-on bundled into package rates, and a few only apply to stays of 2+ nights or higher room categories. If a reservation page mentions “airport transfer” but skips the price, email and ask before you land.

At Thessaloniki Airport Makedonia, shuttles pick up outside Terminal 2 arrivals, in the same general lane used by tour coaches and pre-booked transfers. Reviews mention guests walking out after baggage claim and finding a labeled minibus waiting with the hotel name, often shared with 5–10 other people. If you don’t immediately see your hotel sign, call the front desk from the curb; some drivers hold a small paper sign instead of a board.

Most hotels run their shuttles on a fixed timetable, such as every 60 or 90 minutes, rather than on demand. One guest reported landing, waiting for the next scheduled pickup, then making it to their city hotel in about 30 minutes with two en route stops. Build in wait time on arrival and expect longer total door-to-door timing than a direct taxi, especially if your van drops at several hotels along the way.

Operating hours often track front-desk staffing, so shuttles sometimes stop around 23:00–00:00 and don’t resume until early morning. Reviews flag missed coverage for very late arrivals or 06:00 departures, which then means a last-minute taxi. Regulars often ride the hotel minibus into town after landing, then book a taxi back to SKG for early flights when the shuttle timetable is awkward.

Seats in the smaller vans can feel tight if everyone shows up with 23 kg checked bags plus hand luggage. Shared shuttles might also have limited capacity; some hotels ask you to reserve seats by email at least 24 hours ahead. If you’re on a conference or resort package, confirm in writing: the price (free or per person), exact pickup point outside T2, and the first and last daily departure that match your flight times.

One tip: if your flight home leaves in under 2 hours and the shared shuttle still has multiple hotel pickups to make, skip it and grab a taxi to SKG instead.
