Local BAC elites treat this as their semi-private club

Upstairs near Gate 19 in Terminal A, BAC Credomatic runs on strict access rules that keep it calmer than SJO’s Priority Pass spots. It opened in February 2019 on the upper level by Gate 17/19 in the far right corner facing the runway, so you get some of the best ramp views in the airport while everyone else hunts for seats downstairs.

The lounge sits airside in Terminal A and opens daily from 4:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., so it covers the early San José bank plus most evening departures. Space is big by SJO standards at roughly 745 square meters, with separate zones including a rest room, a large kids’ room, and conference-style tables where people spread out laptops and chargers instead of fighting over a single shared plug in the gate area.

Access is the catch: regulars mention BAC-issued Amex Platinum and BAC Black Mastercard getting unlimited visits and two free guests, while other BAC cardholders pay around $25 plus tax per visit. Officially you can also get in with Dragon Pass or an American Express Centurion product, and walk-up day passes run about $33.90, but reviews make clear that non-local Amex Platinum cards often hit a hard wall at the desk.

Confusion at SJO is real because there are three different lounges: an Amex Platinum/Priority Pass lounge upstairs at Gate 5, another Priority Pass lounge in the basement across from Gate 5, and then this BAC lounge near Gate 17/19. Several travelers show up here with Priority Pass or foreign Amex Platinum expecting entry and end up backtracking to the Gate 5 lounges after being turned away.

Regular BAC card customers treat this as their default pre-flight base, using the unlimited-visit perk instead of dealing with the more crowded Priority Pass rooms downstairs. Parents aim straight for the kids’ room so children can burn energy in a defined space, while solo flyers grab the work tables along the windows to watch aircraft line up on SJO’s single runway.

Watch out for access “mystery”: one reader report quoted by SalsaWorldTraveller says that only locally issued Amex Platinum now works at the desk, which contradicts older LoungeBuddy listings that showed $28 paid access even for some Amex Platinum users. If your strategy depends on Dragon Pass, an Amex, or the $33.90 day pass, budget 15 extra minutes so you can walk back to the Gate 5 lounges if the front desk says no.

Practical tip: before you head toward Gate 19, ask your BAC or Amex issuer (by product name and last four digits) whether the card codes for SJO’s BAC Credomatic lounge, then screenshot that answer in Spanish for the staff.
