Day pass gets you into VIP Lounge in Terminal 1

This is the VIP Lounge in SJD Terminal 1, accessed via Mastercard Airport Experiences or a paid day pass. Think functional more than fancy: comfortable chairs, air conditioning, and calmer space than the public gates. Regulars say it’s “pretty basic” but still better than sitting at the terminal bar watching your 3-hour delay tick by.

The food setup runs to simple snacks and light bites, usually things like chips, cold items, and a few hot trays; reviews call it “adequate” and “nothing fancy.” Don’t plan on a full meal here before a 4-hour flight, but it covers grazing and a drink while you answer emails. If you’re hungry-hungry, eat in the terminal first and treat the lounge as a drinks-and-wifi stop.

Drinks are self-serve or bar-served depending on staffing, with local beer, basic spirits, and soft drinks included in entry. Tipping a dollar or two at the bar goes a long way if you’re staying for more than one margarita. Selection won’t rival a big-city flagship, but it beats paying 150–200 pesos per drink at the gate bar.

The practical wins here: the lounge has its own bathrooms, its own Wi‑Fi network, and a small private conference room. That room is the sleeper feature; people use it for Zoom calls or quick meetings before a 3–5 hour flight back to the US. Ask at the front desk when you arrive; it’s first-come, first-served and can be gone fast during banked departure waves.

Set expectations on amenities: there are no showers and no nap or sleep area. Seating is standard armchairs and tables, not recliners, and overnight stays aren’t a thing at SJD Terminal 1 anyway. If you’re coming in from a resort checkout at 11:00 and evening departure at 19:00, plan to kill some time in town or at the hotel first instead of trying to “camp” here.

Service reviews skew positive, with multiple reports calling staff “outstanding” even when the buffet looks tired. Use this lounge as a quiet buffer before boarding, not a destination. Tip: if your card gives free access, go straight here after security in Terminal 1, grab Wi‑Fi and a seat near an outlet, then head to the gate about 30–35 minutes before boarding.
