Terminal A hosts 2 airlines. You'll find 6 dining options, 5 lounges, 13 shops here.
Two The Club lounges sit by gates A8 and A15
Terminal A runs along the north side of SJC, with American Airlines and Delta Air Lines using these gates for most departures. The concourse is a straight shot, so once you clear the single security checkpoint at the north end, you walk past gates A1 through roughly A18 in order. If you’re connecting from Terminal B, you stay airside and just walk the combined concourse from the south end up to A; plan 10 to 15 minutes gate-to-gate at a normal pace.
The Club SJC has two locations in Terminal A: one near gate A8 and another closer to gate A15, both past security. That split layout matters if your flight boards from the low A gates versus the teens; you don’t want a 10-minute backtrack when boarding starts at, say, A2. Both lounges typically open early for morning banks and run into the evening, but check same-day hours because they shift; Priority Pass and several credit cards get you in, subject to crowd controls.
American’s Admirals Club sits in Terminal A alongside its main gate cluster, useful if you’re on an early DFW or PHX departure. Delta Sky Club is also in this terminal, serving flyers on routes like SLC and SEA; both lounges sit airside, so you clear TSA once and stay put. United Club and the JetBlue Mosaic area are also listed for this side of the field, though United and JetBlue often operate from the broader SJC complex, so double-check the day-of gate on the app before hiking up to A.
Coffee options start with Starbucks inside Terminal A, generally open from early morning through late evening to match the first and last bank of flights. If the Starbucks line near the center of the concourse is 20 people deep, Jamba is another caffeine and smoothie stop a few gates away, usually moving a bit faster. Expect typical airport pricing, with espresso drinks landing around $5 to $7 and smoothies in the same range.
For a real meal, Gordon Biersch Brewery pours house beers and serves burgers and plates sized for a 2–3 hour sit before a transcon. San Jose Joe’s covers the diner side of things with eggs and pancakes in the morning and burgers and sandwiches later in the day. Peanuts and The Brit Bar handle bar-food and pub-style snacks, good for a quick bite within 5 minutes’ walk of several mid-A gates.
On the retail side, Greenlee’s Bakery near gate 14 sells its well-known cinnamon bread and pastries; it’s a good grab-and-go if your flight boards from A12–A16. Authors Bookstore and CNN Newsstand carry books, magazines, and basic tech like USB-C cables, with prices typically 20–30% higher than downtown San Jose. Multiple Hudson locations at gates 6 and 11, plus Hudson News and SJC Travel Mart, cover snacks, drinks, and last-minute toiletries.
Made in California and Daly’s stock Bay Area-branded merch and gifts, including SJC and local sports gear, while See’s Candies on the concourse sells boxed chocolates that fit easily in a carry-on. Nokki Farm and Euro Café add more snacks and light bites along the walk, so you rarely go more than 3 or 4 gates without food or drink. If you want something specific, check the airport map by gate A10 so you’re not doubling back 5 minutes at boarding time.
Build the buffer: for an American or Delta flight out of Terminal A, aim to be at the TSA checkpoint 90 minutes before departure, which covers a 20-minute security line, a 10-minute walk, and a quick stop at Starbucks or one of The Club lounges before you head to your gate.
