Gate-side books and snacks in T1
Right in Terminal 1, WHSmith fills the gap when you realise you forgot something basic before boarding. It sits post-security among the central shops, so you can stop in after immigration and still be at most a 5–7 minute walk from most T1 gates. Think of it as the quick top-up stop between duty-free and your seat.
WHSmith in T1 leans hard on travel basics: bottled water, soft drinks, chocolate bars, chips, instant noodles, and a solid wall of magazines and paperbacks. Prices run higher than downtown Singapore, but a 600ml drink or a standard chocolate bar usually lands in the SGD 2–4 range, which is normal for Changi. If you like to read on board, this is one of the easiest spots in T1 to grab an English-language novel at the last second.
Hours track most long-haul banks; in practice, WHSmith tends to open early morning and stay running late into the night while Terminal 1 handles flights to Europe, Australia, and regional Asia. Because it’s in the main departures area rather than near a single gate cluster, you’ll see passengers for airlines like Qantas, British Airways, and Jetstar all passing through the same narrow aisles.
One tip: if you’re buying snacks for a family of four, do a quick mental tally. Once you cross about SGD 20 in drinks and sweets, it can be cheaper to grab a small box or multipack instead of singles. Pick up anything you want here before you head to your specific gate, as some T1 gate lounges only have vending machines.
