Starbucks

T2

Near the central gates in T2, this Starbucks is the familiar fallback.

Inside Terminal T2 at Shanghai Hongqiao, this Starbucks sits past security and pulls a steady stream of passengers killing time before domestic flights. Expect the standard China Starbucks menu: Americanos, lattes, teas, Frappuccinos, and a case of sandwiches and pastries. Prices run higher than in the city, roughly ¥30–45 for most drinks and a bit more for larger sizes and seasonal specials.

Food is mostly grab-and-go: reheated sandwiches, packaged cakes, and the usual muffins and croissants. A sandwich and grande latte will push close to ¥70–80, which is normal airport pricing at SHA. Portion sizes match other Chinese Starbucks locations, not the oversized US style some travelers expect. If you need something more substantial than a pastry, treat this as a light meal stop, not a full lunch.

Seating can be tight in T2, especially around morning and early evening bank times when flights to cities like Beijing and Guangzhou cluster. Tables often fill with people camped out on laptops or phones, so plan for a takeaway cup and drink at the gate if it looks crowded. Power outlets are hit-or-miss; bring a charged battery pack instead of counting on plugging in for that 45-minute wait.

Ordering is straightforward: staff call out drink sizes in Mandarin and occasionally English, and mobile payment with Alipay or WeChat Pay is standard, though Visa or Mastercard usually works at this chain. Expect a 5–10 minute wait when four or five people are ahead of you, since hot drinks and food all run through the same small prep area.

Tip: if you land in T2 and have under 30 minutes before boarding, skip the pastry line and just grab a bottled drink from the display case; you’ll be at your gate faster and still spend around ¥20–25.
