Under the T2 departure board, McDonald's is the fastest option
This McDonald's sits airside in Terminal T2, an easy landmark near several domestic gates and visible from the main departure board. Expect the usual China menu: McSpicy chicken burgers, rice dishes, and seasonal specials alongside Big Macs and fries. It runs from early morning into late evening, roughly 06:00–22:00, matching the first and last flights out of T2.
A basic combo (burger, fries, drink) lands around ¥30–45, which is cheaper than most full-service spots in Shanghai Hongqiao T2. Coffee from the McCafé counter usually runs about ¥18–25, and breakfast sandwiches stay under ¥30. Prices are a bit higher than city branches, but still on the low side for the airport.
Lines spike around common bank times like 07:00–09:00 and 17:00–19:00, especially for takeaway. Staff move orders quickly, but seating inside the McDonald's zone can fill up, so grabbing a tray and walking 50–100 meters toward your gate often works better if you just need a seat. Service language is mainly Mandarin, but pointing at the overhead menu boards usually works fine.
Expect the full fried lineup: McNuggets, fries, and the local spicy chicken pieces. If you want something lighter before a 2–3 hour domestic hop, the grilled chicken or rice boxes are less heavy than a double burger. Drinks include large soft drinks around ¥12–15 and sundaes or McFlurries for a quick sugar hit between connections.
Payment is easy if you have Alipay or WeChat Pay; cards (Visa/Mastercard/UnionPay) are accepted at most T2 counters, but machines occasionally hiccup, so a backup like ¥100 cash helps. One practical tip: order on the self-service kiosks if they’re on; they often shave 5–10 minutes off the queue during peak waves.
