COSTA Coffee

T2

Gate-side caffeine in T2 before domestic departures

COSTA Coffee sits airside in Terminal T2 at Shanghai Hongqiao, so you’re through security before you queue for a latte. This is one of the safer bets in the terminal when you want something familiar and don’t feel like decoding a long Chinese menu before an 08:00 flight.

Drinks run in the 25–40 RMB range for espresso-based coffee, with larger seasonal drinks creeping a bit higher. Expect the standard COSTA lineup: espresso, cappuccino, lattes, iced coffee, plus a few syrups. If you’re picky about strength, ask for an extra shot; the default pour can taste mild compared with downtown Shanghai cafés.

Food is basic chain fare: pre-made sandwiches, packaged cakes, and pastries typically in the 20–40 RMB band. Freshness swings a bit depending on how busy T2 is; items tend to be better around the morning and early evening banks when domestic flights bunch up. If the croissants look dry in the case, the safer choice is usually a packaged muffin or pound cake.

Seats fill up fast near the main T2 domestic gates during the 07:00–09:00 rush, and power outlets are limited. If you need to work, scout for the bar-style counter seating along the wall rather than the soft chairs by the main queue. Wi‑Fi in T2 needs SMS or passport registration, so plan a few extra minutes before you settle in with your drink.

Service speed depends heavily on flight waves; a flat white can take 10 minutes when several departures crowd the boards. Build that into your boarding time, especially at the far end of T2 where final calls can feel abrupt. Tip: mobile pay (Alipay or WeChat Pay) moves faster than card, so set that up before you reach the counter.
