Overcrowded or not, the SFO Centurion Lounge has the cocktails
The American Express Centurion Lounge in Terminal 2 runs daily from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm, and regulars treat it as the textbook example of an Amex lounge that’s almost too popular. It sits post-security in T2, so this is only an option if you’re flying out of Terminal 2 or feel like walking over airside from Terminal 1 or 3.
The bar is the headline: proper cocktails mixed to order, included with entry, and generally stronger than what you’ll find in the regular Terminal 2 bars at SFO. Food rotates through hot items and salads on a buffet setup, so you can actually build a real meal instead of paying $18+ for a burger in the concourse. Coffee, soft drinks, and self-serve snacks stay out all day.
Doors open at 5:00 am, which works for those early Alaska or Delta departures from T2, and the lounge stays open until 11:00 pm to cover late-night flights. Peak crush hits from roughly 7:30–10:00 am, again around noon–2:00 pm, and another wave before the evening bank, so expect waits and limited seating during those windows.
Access is standard Centurion rules: Platinum and Centurion cardholders with same-day boarding pass in any cabin, plus guests per the current Amex policy. Rating skews high at 5 stars, mostly on the strength of the food and drinks compared with the public Terminal 2 options. If you only have 35 minutes before boarding, it’s usually not worth walking down, checking in, and then hunting a seat.
Tip: build at least a 60–75 minute buffer to justify a visit, hit the buffet first, then order a drink at the bar before you sit; once you’ve claimed a seat, you won’t want to give it up and circle again when the next wave hits.
